You know what would be really cool? A news box like the one on NSB. It could display the current range of times that it's acceptable to set interactions in -- so like, right now it'd be "Before April 2018". It could also summarize some of the things that are going on on the site in an in-universe fashion -- stuff like "No one is speaking about the death of [some mortal], but it has not gone unnoticed." and " I'm not even sure why I'm reporting this, but there is a woman walking through the streets of Electric City. She is whistling." and (for the preludes) "There has been a break-in at a corner store in Bamford Village. Citizens are urged to remain calm." or "The wind is blowing from Prosper Docks. The salt in the air reminds you of a story you heard once about a pirate. How did it go...?" or " War is hell -- but don't tell our ancestors that." Keeping it stocked with content could be a problem, but I feel like if people understand that it's a good way to get visibility for the stuff they're doing on the site, they'll write their own -- and I'm having fun writing these too, so there's that. |

That sounds pretty good to me. The time frame thing probably won't be necessary since the only reason we have that limitation now is we haven't kicked off the main storyline yet, once we do I doubt we'll ever have occasion to limit what IU time threads take place in on a generalized level. Otherwise though, a news ticker would be an excellent way for the ST Staff to psychologically torture the players with half-truths and misinformation to publicize plot and give story hooks.

It's actually already there by default - check under the shoutbox (that's the 'V5' option that's default with Proboards now - the one on NSB was the 'V4' Plugin). Anyone with admin access can go to Settings->Shoutbox to add/remove messages and change its settings, I just haven't touched it yet because I frankly forgot it existed.

Well, Zeppe, if you think the fun of writing news ticker items would last/justify the extra work, I'd be more than willing to put your name up for Staff to get the Admin powers to do so. Frankly, the Story Staff could use a fourth person to help with preludes since Reav is swamped with work irl, anyway.

I mean, I won't say I'm not a little concerned about my propensity to overcommit myself -- that's why Legion didn't ask if I wanted to be on staff to begin with. But since I'm currently not in school, I've got a lot of extra mental energy floating around, and as long as people keep producing content I can keep writing summaries of it. I can't promise that I won't need to take a break or step down from active Storytelling in the future, is the thing, so that's something to consider too.
