A cold wind howled and rattled the ramshackle rafters of La Iglesia de la Fuente de Dio church as Joaquin Diego Santiago de Jovinna stepped into the night. The supernatural gale that constantly emanated from the fiendish-looking man was of exceptional strength tonight, an outward reflection of the raging hunger his stony True Brujah affect concealed. Not since he first left on his emigration to Oddhaven had he fed, with the demands of establishing his foothold swallowing up his nights. If only he could use Temporis on to speed up his networks in the city. Now, at last, he could put off the hunt no longer. He had plans for tonight; plans that would require all his strength. Starting vitae for a character is determined by a roll of a d10 plus any dots in the Herd Background. As Joaquin has no Herd it'll just be the die.

Joaquín was never a religious man. All pretence of higher powers went out the window along with his immediate family and ethics both. Yet by necessity, he had become pious of late. Buying property months in advance, seating a new priest and chartering a jet. All matters of money. Looking very much like a man with money, the fair-haired man stepped out of the church, pulling his warm woollen a little tighter, flicking the scarf a little further. In truth the cold was a meaningless thing, it always clung to him like mold on damp. That which was of meaning to him, here and now; was blood. The streets were frigid with winter, a perfect cover for him. At this late hour he decided he would hunt the first miserable-looking drug peddler he could find, ducking through narrow passes between houses. Rats were so seldom missed after all.

Joaquin found the scruffy-looking, foul-smelling Portuguese man amid a cluster of abandoned homes. As the dealer shouted obliviously into his cellphone, Joaquin observed him from the shadows cast by the six-foot concrete rise that separated almost every Windmir residence from the streets dug down in the terrain. The Beast rose with a roar as Joaquin beheld his prey, but the cold reason of Brujah's true heirs clamped down mercilessly on the ravenous impulses. Fully self-possessed, Joaquin could proceed as he saw fit. Joaquin rolls Wits 4 + Streetwise 0 to find a dealer, at difficulty 4 because of Windmir Estates assigned hunting difficulty.

The poor sap. So very interested in his cellphone. In this day and age Joaquin applauded the existence of such pieces of technology. Slithering forward, blanketed in the dark, the amber-eyed beast strode forward proudly, easily. Having lost his thick Spanish accent across the centuries, Joaquin slid up closer to the man, his smile wide. With his appearance he could very well have passed for an addict. Choosing to play up that fact, he sniffed, rubbing and wringing his hands.
"Hey... Hey buddy, you got any good CJ?"

The shocked inhalation of breath that preceded the pusher's startled surprise sounded sweet to the Beast and it lunged again, but found no purchase against the steely mind of Joaquin de Jovinna. Exhausted, the urge to frenzy died down to a throbbing but easily controlled hunger. "Você parece que saiu do ânus do diabo!" the man said before calming a bit, "But, yeah, yeah, man, I've got what you need. How much do you want?" Joaquin rolls again in his extended frenzy test

Wringing his hands out again, Joaquin dipped one into his pocket, fumbling for an apparent wallet. He took his eyes off the man, looking down. For a moment, he smirked, pulling out a brown leather square. Forcing his body to shake, Joaquin sniffed again, opening out his wallet to grasp for currency. He stepped forward, tilting it to the man in the dark, close enough to brush shoulders. Slowly, his hand snaked around, lingering behind the man's neck.
"How much will this get me bud?" queried Joaquin, lurching his arm forward to grab the pusher, and pull him to where he could be drained of life essence.

With a vigor and speed born of desperate hunger, Joaquin subdued the man and had his fangs in his throat within less than second. Few are the pleasures that can delight an elder Sage but as the burst of warm, red-black essence began to spill over Joaquin's lips, time slowed down and for once not due to his powers. Ecstasy awoke in every sinew of Joaquin's dead flesh. The feast tasted like all the glories of life invading his soul in a single sublimely overwhelming crescendo. Joaquin's eyelids fluttered and he lost all concern for his surroundings as he broke his long fast. Joaquin rolls Str 3 + Brawl 3 to initiate a hold

Exhaling slow and steadily through his nose, the delighted Joaquin made short work of feasting, drawing out his fill of blood, taking pains not to dribble it down his suit like a child. No matter how quickly it would pass, the True Brujah continued to drain the petty crook until he had satiated his hunger. Dispatching of the corpse would be an easy task. Covering his tracks even easier - a stab wound to the neck would so nicely cover up the fang marks, and oh-so many small-time dealers were stabbed in the dark...

The soothing pulsations of the prey's heart slowed and the stream of blood ran down to a trickle. His last breath had left the man before Joaquin had finished feeding, with his long fangs he drew out the last sluggish arterial caches. Only after several long moments of nothing, he concluded that no more sustenance was left to be taken and, pulling away, licked the wounds closed. Ecstasy lingered for a short while longer until Joaquin's gaze refocused enough to gaze upon the dead man's face. In the pathetically staring, glassy eyes of the corpse Joaquin saw no longer the degenerate criminal he had cornered but instead the young man who had grown up in such foul conditions that all good had been strangled out of him. Now that goodness had come again, no longer kept at bay from the garden of the boy's body by evil cherubim, it would have only a brief existence before its long-lost home rotted away. In this man's eyes Joaquin saw reflected the losses of his own mortal youth, and a stabbing remorse replaced any and all rapture. The deed was done. Efficient and exquisite. Wiping his lips clean, Joaquin sucked the droplets of blood from his thumb, swiftly recovering his wallet. Drawing a knife from one of his pockets, he crouched beside the crook, and dragged him to a nearby storm drain. Laying him face down, he drove the blade into the boy's neck where his teeth had previously burrowed. Another drug dealer stabbed over a sale gone horribly wrong. Another crime statistic, and all the blood to run into the sewers. No-one would be any the wiser. Tilting his head back, the vampire flashed a toothy smile heavenward. Pity, what a foolish notion that was.

Joaquin could never be said to look normal, but with the wealth of blood he'd ingested he at the very least looked alive. The hunger that had up until moments ago been howling within him was no longer to be found, and the preternatural chill that followed the vampire had become less overtly dramatic in response. Joaquin took little time before moving onwards, however, for he had a task to complete tonight and now had the power in his veins to do so. Story continues in linked thread
