"Dreams of restoring Carthage; I have no such ambitions left. But of seeing more men dedicated to reason and equality rising to prominence among my kind...that at least gives me pause for consideration and hope. Though that hope has of late been abused by the small misfortunes of existence, speaking with you this night has lifted many grim clouds from my mind. And, as to the purity of your motives and honesty of your words, take this not as insult, my new friend, but you have neither the years nor the experience needed to successfully deceive or mislead me. I regularly engage with those who have not spoken a single sincere word since the days of Charlemagne, to see mortal prevarication is no feat for me."
"The next question falls then to you. It should be obvious, based on everything I have told you, that I am not breaking my kind's secrecy for you out of mere desire for stimulating conversation. I am offering you a place among us. I will not impose the decision upon you; you are free to refuse. What I must impose upon is that, should you refuse, you must give me your word that you will never communicate the secrets I have entrusted you with to another. Nor can I give you longer then the next hour or two to decide. I would prefer to give you the proper time to consider such a weighty matter, but needs must I go about my business here quickly."

Alexandre paused to consider this. He would leave his mortal life behind. But then, Napoleon was now First Consul, and France was in a fine position with or without Alexandre supporting it. Regardless, it would seem that advancing society would ultimately depend on these immortals, who had been secretly advancing society since civilization dawned. Not to mention, immortality itself was a huge opportunity to pass up.
"Very well. I accept."
