"Hello, this is officer Abbey. To whom am I speaking?"
"Hi, my name is Fredi Sanchéz, and I'm an old friend of yours from high school. Remember, from the volleyball team?"
Fredi stresses the agreed upon code word, volleyball.

"Fredi! It's been too long! We should really meet up. Actually, wild idea, let's meet up for lunch! I've got an hour at 11:30. You free to meet up? Maybe Sigalho's Subs, just like old times?" Officer Abbey made his end of the conversation sound exceedingly natural. It was clear he was used to lying, and more specifically that he was used to lying for corruption.

Wow, he's good. He's really good. This job was going so well! She'd found a lead on a criminal underworld, her contact in the force was good at this... what a deal!
"Sounds like an AMAZING idea. Let's do it. While we're on the line, could you read your cell phone number back to me? It's been a while, just wanna be sure I still have it right. You know how I am with contacts." She laughs.
(((HEY SORRY I FORGOT TO CHANGE ACCOUNTS TO POST THE FIRST POST IN THIS THREAD, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN.)))

((No worries, haha. I'm sure as this site runs on, it'll keep happening))
"Sure thing. Shoot me a text when you get there." After reading off the phone number and confirming it with her, Abbey hung up the phone and returned to work.
***
Officer Liam pulled into Sigalho's at 11:37. He tried to be early for his first meetings, especially with criminal clients, but he'd been held up a bit longer than expected with some paperwork. At his mere presence, activity from the few patrons in the restaurant slowed. He looked around, though he didn't know much about his contact, or even what her line of work was- better not to know to much in this line of business- before remembering giving her his phone number and checking for the text to see if she was here yet.

Fredi's phone lights up. She glances and smiles.
She sends a text in reply. Will need to pull some records. Alex LeChevalier and Abigail Winters. Pulling in in five. Look for blue baseball cap and flannel.
She arrives at Sighalo's at 11:45, stows her holdout gun in a pocket underneath the flannel, and walks inside. "Table for two."

Officer Abbey already had a table and his sandwich when she arrived. Later than I am. At least she won't know I wasn't on time. Recognizing her by her outfit, he waved her toward his table.
"You must be Fredi. Nice to finally meet you," he said, unwrapping the sub and taking his first bite out of it. "So, records on Alex... lay-chay-vol-ee-er and Abigail Winters?" He asked, eyeing the text. "Anything in particular you're looking for? Criminal activity? Places of residence? I don't even know the name of the person that hired you, much less what they're after, so I can't be very proactive for you. Maybe if you told me what you're after, I could be a bit more helpful?"

"Focusing on places of residence, diplomas, other records of schooling. Where did LeChevalier get his schooling? Abi, hers? Why's a librarian hanging out with a biker, and ordering him around? I doubt they'll have criminal history, but I wanna know if they do." She leans back in her chair, and looks at the menu. Steak, pepper jack, and a load of buffalo sauce sounded good today.

"Wait, hold on, a librarian was hanging out with a biker?" Abbey jotted down a quick scribble in his notepad before taking a sip from his soda. "That might be helpful to know more about. When we run a background check, we only dig up names, aliases, residences, place of birth, physical description, the car they drive, license and plates, and criminal history.
"Now, that's not to say I can't look into education, but it would raise more attention than a simple background check would. Now, if that's the route you want to go, tell me about this biker. Sounds suspicious already, and I can maybe build a reason to look into these three people if it's suspicious enough without getting much flak from the higher ups. Of course, that's not what our mutual friend is paying me for, and you'd need to sweeten the pot to make it worth my while to take on that extra work and risk."

"Well, he was REALLY burly. He had a wild-looking beard and hair, and he was wearing biker leathers." Frederica proceeds to list off his hair and eye color as well, as well as gives an approximate height. "He said something odd when he saw me. 'Not one of mine.' Maybe in whatever gang he's in, I matched the aesthetic? I guess be on the lookout for leather-jacketed bikers. Oh, and he was called Warthog, and he was reading Aurelius's Meditations. Didn't really seem the type, but...." Fredi shrugs.
She pauses and takes a bite of her sub. Her eyes roll back happily for just a moment. "Mmmph, I forgot how good this place was. No, if it'd kick up too much of a fuss, don't do it, just regular background checks are more than fine. And I'm only interested in anything they're doing so far as it pertains to political squabbles here. Maybe there was some connection, some organized crime, whatever." She looks down at her food, then looks back up and drops her voice low. "I know you don't have to care about my well-being, but I'm ONLY here to investigate politics. If I go barking up the tree you're getting some money from, and it's making you look bad, I'll get out of your hair, just like, warn me. Yeah?"

"Heh, no worries. If you try to dig up something one of my clients is paying me to hide, I'll be square with you, and just tell you flat out that information is off limits. But Alexandre, Abigail, or this "Warthog" fellow aren't. I'll run those background checks for you- you'd be surprised what you can dig up with just that. I may be able to find something odd just with that." Taking another bite from his sub and leaning back, he said with a mouthful, "Anything else you want while we're talking?"

"I don't think so, just looking for food recommendations around here. What's open late, and I mean, really late, close to the library? Alexandre doesn't meet up during the day, and I want to be meeting in a slightly more public place." She checks her phone for a second, and then looks up. "A bar would be best. What's your favorite?"

"I don't go out on the town much anymore, so I may be showing my age here, but for a more upscale bar go to The Colonial, for a more common bar go to The Harbor Spring. There's also biker bar called Choppy's that I get called in to deal with every now and then, if he's hanging around with bikers maybe try that out. Most of the good bars are in Penngrove, so they shouldn't be too far from the library." Taking a glance at his watch, he took the last bite of his sandwich and crumpled up the paper. "Alright, I've gotta get back to the station. I'd rather not email the background checks, that's too traceable. How do you want me to deliver them?"

Frederica detaches a flash drive from her keychain and flicks it to the other side of the table. "You can put files on this. It auto-wipes every 48 hours. I'll be sure to pick it up before then. And I'll pay for the subs, you're doing more than enough."
After he leaves, Frederica sits outside on a bench reading her book on local political history for another hour. She then gathers up her things, and drives home.

"Well, thanks for the meal. See you soon," he said, holding up the flashdrive before leaving the restaurant.
***
Around 3 o'clock, Frederica got a text.
Ran the check. Nothing out of the ordinary for LeChevalier. There wasn't a "Warthog" that matched your description, so must not be a known alias of whoever that is. Of note, Abigail Winters had a missing person report filed about a year ago, and hasn't been found since. I don't see a connection between them, but you may have stumbled on something. More info on the drive whenever you pick it up- don't come to the station to do so.

Send the address for a pickup. I'll look into this, I do think it's something. If LeChev is running some sort of operation, it's useful to have a ghost, like Winters seems to be.

It's 6 that night, at Liam's house. There's a knock at the door. "Oh, hi, you must be Liam's wife. I'm an old friend of his from school. I left a jump drive at lunch with him earlier, and I'm here to pick it up!" Lies, lies, and more lies. Comfortable territory for Frederica.
