We're pleased to announce that Oddhaven now has an official Discord server for chat and ancillary roleplay. The server can be found here:
I am a link, click me!
If you're unfamiliar, Discord is a community text-and-voice chat application, which can be downloaded from this website. Discord servers are organised into channels, which can be either voice or text-based.
Oddhaven's Discord server is divided into three categories: General, In-Universe IRC, and Voice Channels. General has two text-channels: general, and roleplaying. General is meant for general chatter of all kinds - talking, spouting memes, planning roleplays etc. Roleplaying is a dedicated channel for just that - roleplaying. More details are covered at the end of this announcement.
In-Universe IRC is also for roleplaying and is for chatting as your characters. Roleplaying on these channels is "canon" - you can generally assume things said or referenced in these channels happened, but if anything on the main site contradicts it the main site takes priority. This category has multiple channels, which are:
oddhaven-irc-c - For Camarilla Kindred to talk about how much they hate each other
oddhaven-irc-s - For Sabbat Kindred to talk about how much they hate the Camarilla
oddhaven-irc-a - For Anarch Kindred to talk about how much they hate everyone
oddhaven-irc-u - For Unaligned and Autarkis Kindred to talk about how much they hate commitment
oddhaven-irc-ia - For Independent Alliance Kindred to talk about how much they hate the normies
There are also two special channels that aren't restricted by Sect:
oddhaven-schrecknet - For Kindred to seek and barter for information from the Nosferatu, and for Nosferatu to share information among themselves
oddhaven-irc-j - For everyone to joke around in an explicitly non-canon setting where anything goes
Lastly, we have a general Voice Channel in case anybody wants to use it.
As mentioned above, we have a dedicated channel for roleplaying. This is roleplaying in the conventional sense vs. the in-universe chatting of the irc-channels - if you want to RP the events of Oddhaven off-site, this is the place for it. Everything in this channel is canon and subject to the same rules as the main site. Further, to facilitate this RP we've installed RPBot, a roleplaying bot, onto the Discord server. RPBot mainly functions as a dice-roller - you can find out more about its functions by typing !help into any of the Oddhaven text channels. There's no 'proper' way or method to roleplay on Discord - whatever the players/GM are happy with is completely fine.
However, the main commands you'll be using are "!roll xd10" and "!roll xd10>>y" (remove quotation marks).
!roll xd10 will tell RPBot to roll x number of d10s and display the results - this is coded to automatically sum the results as well, which isn't exactly useful.
Because of this, !roll xd10>>y is much better to use - this will tell RPBot to roll x number of d10s and tell you how many of those results exceed y. So !roll 5d10>>4 would have RPBot roll 5 d10s, and count how many rolled a 5 or higher. You'll note that it is greater than, not greater than or equal to - this means that your y will have to be 1 lower than the difficulty (ie. if the difficulty is 6 you will need to use !roll xd10>>5 to include any 6s). RPBot will also display the number each die rolled.
There are a few slight XP gain changes when using Discord to roleplay rather than this site. 1 XP is earned for all characters for any story roleplayed on Discord without a GM. A story with a GM rewards 2 XP to all players; the GM receives 1 XP.
Finally, any roleplay on Discord should also be cross-posted to the main site. A pinned topic will be created in Roleplay Discussion after the first instance of Discord RP for summaries of Discord roleplay. These summaries should include a brief, one-to-three paragraph description of the events of the roleplay as well as a copy of the text logs from Discord (in a spoiler tag).
Happy hunting!
